Topic: Language and Authority
Descriptive and prescriptive grammar rules and corpus linguistics.
Learning Outcomes:
1. The students will be able to understand the different between prescriptive and descriptive grammar rules.
2. They will learn how corpus linguist works

1. Greet the class. Inform them about activities that we are going to do today.

2. Hand out the flyers and ask the class to form a small group with 3 classmates.

3. Students will answer in groups to the questions and I will set up the video.

4. Groups will answer one question and I give the chance to add information from other groups. I will collect the answers from each group (secretary).

5. Explain to the class the corpus linguistics. How they work, materials and important.
| 3 min. |
6. Ask the class “What do you think, in which areas corpus linguist are working and why?” 2-3 Students will answer and I will add information when necessary.

7. Show the video to the class and hand out flyer with guiding questions.

8. Ask the class what they have answered to the questions on hand out 2.

Ayse, Your lesson plan is very good. YOu have planned a variety of learning activities and you have given students several opportunities to learn actively in small groups. The video is useful and clear and I like the fact that it is short. We can discuss your plan tomorrow before class in my office.
